Defender Serdar Tasci, who had a valid contract with VfB until June 30th 2010, has extended with the club for a further four years and committed to Stuttgart in the long term. A son of Turkish parents, Tasci, who was born in Esslingen, has
been with VfB since 1999, coming through the youth teams and reserves to finally break into the 'A' team. The technically gifted central defender, who can also play on the right side of the back four, was part of VfB Stuttgart's 2007 German championship winning side - his greatest sporting achievement to date. In the home game against SC Freiburg on the second match day of this season, the 22 year old bore the captains armband for the first time, with Thomas Hitzlsperger being rested ahead of the Play-Off against Timisoara.
