Happy Birthday

Horst Heldt may not really be feeling in the mood for big parties at the moment, but the VfB Executive Representative for Sport turns 40 this Wednesday. Simply too much has happened over the past few days, and the game on Wednesday is far too significant, to allow Horst Heldt the opportunity to relax and enjoy his big day.

Regardless of the situation though, the former VfB player could find out tomorrow if life really does begin at 40! Horst Heldt has been in Stuttgart now for almost seven years - moving to VfB from Sturm Graz in January 2003. As a player, the midfielder wore the jersey with the red chest ring on 54 occasions in the Bundesliga and was something of a ‘Senior-Citizen' as he celebrated success with the so called ‘Jungen Wilden' (the Young Wild Ones). In total, Horst Heldt made 359 appearances in Germany's top flight and he also twice represented Germany at international level.

Heldt made the smooth move from his active playing career into football management in January 2006 - taking on the job as VfB's Director of Sport. During his time in the role, Heldt has enjoyed some notable successes - not only seeing the club qualify for international football on three occasions but also the German championship win and DFB Cup final participation in the summer of 2007, as well as twice being involved in the UEFA Champions League. Since July of this year, the former midfielder is now VfB's Executive Representative for Sport.

VfB Stuttgart would like to wish Horst Heldt all the very best on his 40th birthday and we hope he enjoys a happy, healthy and successful future.
